The Protoss crest

With their highly advanced technology and potent psionic abilities, the Protoss once considered themselves the most powerful species in the galaxy. Their war with the Zerg has proved otherwise: even the most individually capable warrior cannot overcome such insurmountable numbers. The lesson has been hard one for the Protoss, for their society is built around core philosophies that have been rigidly adhered to for over a thousand years. However, the Zerg invasion of the Protoss homeworld of Aiur has brought the race to a crossroads: the Protoss must embrace change if they are to survive and prevail. Now new tactics and technologies are being brought to bear in the increasingly desperate battle against the Zerg, and ancient, terrible weapons the Protoss set aside long ago are being unleashed.

The Protoss have never been a prolific people and have traditionally bolstered their numbers with a variety of robotic war machines. Individual Protoss warriors are unsurpassed in their skills, greatly enhanced by the combination of technology and formidable psionic strength. Nonetheless, the Protoss must rely on mobility and surprise to maximize their advantages without getting drawn into a battle of attrition. One of their greatest strengths lies in their fleet, which boasts a variety of ships powerful enough to pound an enemy to atoms.

Primary Objectives[edit]

  • Station Reactor Must Survive
  • Free First Captive Protoss
  • Free Second Captive Protoss
  • Free Third Captive Protoss

Guide[edit]

Start by building probes from your Nexus and converting your Gateway into a Warp Gate. Although there is a time limit in the mission due to the Zerg attacks, you will have quite a bit of time; even on brutal you will have around 28 minutes, so don't feel too rushed. Feel free to wait until after the 2nd Zerg attack before you push out. Terran will occasionally send attack parties, so leave units to defend this and/or build cannons.

When you are ready to move out to the West, cross the Zerg attack path, avoiding any Zerg, and destroy the Bunker and Terran units. Continue forward and kill the other Terran units at the bottom of the Ramp. Push up the ramp and destroy the units and the Barracks. A party of Reapers will come from the West gate, so don't let your units get separated with half attacking the Reapers and the other half on the Barracks. Enter the West gate where the Reapers came from to pick up some Minerals and Gas. Move forward and destroy all the units in the next room. If you can use a High Templar's Feedback on the Raven before it attacks, you will instantly kill it. After destroying the Holding Pen, some Zealots will join you.

To the North of the prison cell is a room with a Pylon Containing Unit and the first part of the bonus objective. When you enter this room, Terran units will start warping in. After you kill them, destroy the Pylon Containing Unit, and you will get a free Pylon to start warping in your own units. Now head to the East and move on to the next objective. Cross the Zerg attack path, making sure to avoid an attack wave. Kill the Terran units and the bridge control building to make a bridge to your main base. In the next room to the East, you can destroy the Terran building and make a second Nexus to increase your income. Destroy the 2nd Holding Pen and get some more Zealots.

Head through to the North and kill all the units in your way. Following the path around to the East, you can get some extra Minerals and Gas, though you probably won't need them. Heading North, kill all the units in your way until you see the room with the 2nd Pylon Containing Unit, just to the East of the main Terran Reactor base. Destroy the Pylon Containing Unit to complete the bonus objective. Move onto the final Holding Pen to the West, avoiding any Zerg. You will encounter some heavier resistance including some Hybrids, which can be tough to take down. Try to Feedback any units with energy using you High Templars.

Cheap Trick: Use the Zerg[edit]

It's possible to use the Zerg attack wave to kill off the final Holding Pen. When the wave arrives, use a couple of units to attack the Zerg wave, then draw them in the direction of the holding pen. The Zerg will continue to attack the rest of the hybrid and complete the mission for you. This can make things easy if you're short of units (and time).
